A goal in the third minute of injury time from Austin Marron pinched victory for Termon over Glenfin on Saturday night at the Burn Road.

Termon 1-8

Glenfin 1-7

In a crowded square after Declan O’Donnell had lumped the ball in for one last, desperate attempt to get something, Marron punched past Andrew Walsh for the dramatic conclusion.

With dusk falling fast, it was the final act and Glenfin would’ve been disappointed not to take something from the All-County Football League Division Two leaders.

They never fell behind from the moment Conor Ward smashed in the first goal of the night, which came during the last play of the first half.

Ward blasted high past Conor Tinney in the Termon goal having been set up by Mark McGinty Jnr.

That made the half-time score 1-3 to 0-4 for Liam Ward’s team, although the home support would’ve been scratching their heads trying to work out how they were behind at all having kicked nine first half wides.

However, Termon seemed to be finding their range in the early stages of the second half, after Kevin McGlynn had pushed out the Glenfin lead, with three successive points.

All three of those came from the left foot of Daire McDaid and by the 38th minute, Termon were level at 0-7 to Glenfin’s 1-4. The home team thought they had forced their way in front when Caolan Mellett appeared to have split the posts.

However, referee Paddy McGonagle, having consulted with an umpire, waved for another wide, one of six Termon would hit in the second half.

Kevin McGlynn’s free then edged Glenfin in front before a talking point when Ciaran Moy claimed he was denied a goal by a foot block. Termon, on the other hand, appealed for a foul in the build up but three minutes from time Mark McGinty Jnr scored to put Glenfin two points up.

It seemed as though it would be enough. But it wasn’t to be.
