Donegal U-21 lady footballers are on the All-Ireland trail this Sunday when they face Longford in the Aisling McGing All-Ireland B Championship final.

The final is in Markievicz Park, Sligo, throw-in 2 pm. Donegal first time entrants in the competition have made it all the way to the final following victories over Tyrone and Roscommon.

The side are managed by senior manager Davy McLaughlin and his senior backroom team

Donegal defeated Tyrone, 5-17 to 2-5, in the first round, received a walkover against Louth before defeating Roscommon, 1-10 to 1-9 in the semi-final last Sunday, in Markievicz Park.

Longford are somewhat surprise finalists. They emerged from a very strong group containing Cavan and Monaghan. They defeated Monaghan, 1-16 to 0-7 and followed that up with a 3-7 to 2-9 victory over Cavan to book their place in the final.

“Longford are a real surprise package. Their seniors did not win a game in Division Three of the league, but they have beaten very strong Cavan and Monaghan teams on their way to the final,” said Davy McLaughlin. “We don’t know much about them but any team that defeated Cavan and Monaghan and in the manner in which the did have to be respected and we will be doing that on Sunday.”

Donegal are backbone by senior players Nicole McLaughlin, Rose Boyle, Emer Gallagher, Kaneisha McKinney, Gemma Glackin, Ciara Gallagher, Shannon McGroddy, Amber Barrett, Rosin Curran and Emma McCrory, all who played in Donegal’s run to the Division Two league final.

Davy McLaughlin has reported a clean bill of health though with up to ten of the side facing Down, less than 24 hours, in the Ulster Senior Championship, he will not be in a position to finalise his starting team until Saturday evening.
