Naomh Brid, without David Walsh, lost by two points to Naomh Colmcille, in Trummon on Saturday evening.
Naomh Colmcille 0-9
Naomh Brid 0-7
The game, which was orginally fixed for yesterday, was brought forward to Saturday which resulted in the home team being forced to line out without their star man David Walsh.
Walsh trained with the county senior squad on Saturday morning and under an agreement county players are not allowed play games on training days. However, Thomas McKinley, who is also in Jim McGuinness’s squad, featured for the visitors.
Playing with the aid of a strong wind Naomh Brid got off to a good start and courtesy of points from Shane Walsh (2) and Gary McCafferty they took an early 0-3 to 0-0 lead.
But Naomh Colmcille settled and hit four unanswered points to go one up. And while Pauric McDaid levelled the game shortly after the momentum was with Thomas McKinley and company and they forged ahead again and went in two up at half-time 0-6 to 0-4.
The locals struggled against the breeze early on in the second half before they mounted a late charge with points from McDaid and Walsh.
But a late red card to Tommy McCafferty saw Naomh Brid reduced to 14 players and ended any hope of salvaging something from a good Naomh Colmcille side.
