“I was never as glad to hear a final whistle,” was the first reaction of the player of the game, Geraldine McLaughlin.
“I can’t believe that we are in an All-Ireland family, with your family. It is just unbelievable.
“We knew they were a running team and we had just to try and stop that first and then get our own game going.
“We had a plan and we kept going right to the end. That’s all about us.
When asked about the tough marking she received, she just nodded: “I think that’s the game plan of any opposition; crowd the backline and then attack. Thank God it worked out for us today.”
Geraldine was extremely complimentary of her teammates and especially the fielding of Roisin Friel. “They say Neil Gallagher has hands of glue but I think it’s Roisin Friel. She was just unbelievable. She has been doing it all year for us so hopefully she can bring it to the final with her.”
As for Shannon McGroddy, the other goalscorer on the day, Geraldine said: “We knew from the start of the year, she was real good. We knew she was going to be a real good asset to our team.
“We are really looking forward to the final now. We don’t know how lucky we were back in 2010 to get the All-Ireland semi-final. It was our first county then and the semi-final was a bonus, but hopefully we can go all the way now,” said Geraldine.
