St Eunan’s returned to winning ways in the All-County League Division One with a narrow victory over Glenswilly on Sunday.

St Eunan’s 0-10

Glenswilly 0-8

Without Rory Kavanagh at centre-field, Maxi Curran was glad to welcome Kevin Rafferty back for his first start of the season as St Eunan’s, after successive losses to St Michael’s and Ardara, came through courtesy of late points from Conall Dunne and Sean McVeigh.

Glenswilly were minus a host of players, most notably Neil Gallagher, but Michael Murphy on 14 seconds made a beeline for goal and was only denied by a John Paul Clarke save.

The visitors shaded the first half but went in trailing 0-4 to 0-3 with Conor O’Donnell rounding off the first half scoring for the hosts.

Glenswilly started the second period lively and knocked over three successive points, with Paddy McFadden, Murphy and Gary McFadden on the mark.

St Eunan’s came roaring back to level with Conor Gibbons and Donnacha Gallagher scoring prior to a Rafferty free putting the O’Donnell Park residents back in front.

Murphy, with his fifth, tied it up at 0-7 each and it was still level when Donnacha Gallagher and Dermot McGinley swapped scores.

The contest, peculiarly, swung on two nicked kick-outs.

Whereas Clarke in the St Eunan’s goal saved a Murphy piledriver, at the other end Dunne stole possession from Philip O’Donnell’s delivery to edge St Eunan’s in front before McVeigh sealed the deal.

St Eunan’s finished with only 14 as Caolan Ward was black-carded for a haul in injury time and although Conor Morrison was about to come on at the next break in play, Jimmy White’s final whistle tooted before he did.
