Four Masters can thank Karl Lacey for a very important win over Malin in Tirconaill Park.
Four Masters 1-10
The only goal of the game from Lacey, midway through the first half was the decisive score. Lacey burst through from the 45m line to finish and he also added a first half point as the home side led 1-5 to 0-4 at the break.
Kevin McBrearty (2) and Dillon Ward (2) were the other Four Masters first half scorers while Matthew Byrne (2) Ciaran McColgan and Anthony Kelly (free) were on the scoresheet for Malin.
Malin kept coming back in the second and subs Adam Byrne and Conor Farren twice had them within two points with 13 minutes left.
But three points from Conor McMonagle, Michael Doherty (free) and Karl Lacey with the fist after a great run opened the gap to five with four minutes left. Lacey’s point was one of the highlights of the second half.
Malin could only add two late Anthony Kelly frees, although Brendan McLaughlin did flash an effort just across the goal.
The win eases Four Masters three points clear of a group of teams in the top flight and may be an important one before the season is over for Emlyn Hughes’s boys
