Gaoth Dobhair took the County Minor League title although they were pushed all the way by St. Eunan’s in the second half.
Gaoth Dobhair 2-6
St. Eunan’s 0-10
At a wet St. Michael’s, St. Eunan’s were dealt a big blow before throw-in when county minor Conor Morrison pulled up in the warm up and took no part.
The first goal came on 20 minutes when Gaoth Dobhair captain Niall Friel finished to the net to put the winners 1-2 to 0-2 up. Before half-time Cian Mulligan added the second goal as the Gaoth Dobhair side led by 2-3 to 0-6 at the break. The Letterkenny boys had finished the half well with the last three points.
It was close throughout the second half with St. Eunan’s edging the scoring but they came up just short. Before the end Gaoth Dobhair full-forward Gavin McBride was black carded. McBride was one of six county minors on the winning side, while St. Eunan’s fielded four with Morrison on the sideline.
No doubt these sides will meet again in the championship - probably in the Minor Championship final - as they are probably the best two minor teams in the county.
Goath Dobhair are the County Minor League champions. They’ve beaten St Eunan’s by 2-6 to 0-10 in Dunfanaghy.
