Termon remain rooted to the bottom of the All-County Football League Division One after a four-point loss to St Eunan’s at the Burn Road.

Termon 1-8

St Eunan’s 1-12

The Letterkenny side consolidated an early lead with a 21st minute goal from Donnacha Gallagher and managed to keep Daireann Gibson’s team at arm’s length from then on.

Termon, who were 1-6 to 0-3 down at half-time, fared slightly better in the second half and scored a goal from Austin Marron, the former St Eunan’s forward, nine minutes from time.

With the scores tied at 0-2 each on 15 minutes, St Eunan’s retained that parity when teenage goalkeeoer Sean Daffan saved with his feet from Marron on 14 minutes.

Following that scare, St Eunan’s eked into a two-point lead with Gallagher and Conor Gibbons on the mark.

The visitors scored the opening goal of the match when Gallagher played the ball into Michael Boyle’s bottom corner following a daring break form Sean McVeigh and a pass from Gibbons.

Termon were disjointed as the half bore to an end and Lee McMonagle and Kevin Rafferty, with a fine long rage effort, established a six-point advantage at the interval.

Whilst St Eunan’s began the second period with three wasteful wides, Termon took Christy Connaghan off the bench to score twice - the first of which came from a 45.

However, St Eunan’s still had the capabilities to make the most of their scoring bursts.

Gallagher, Michael Miller and Conall Dunne scored three on the spin and with 13 minutes to go, Maxi Curran’s team were 1-10 to 0-6 in front.

Michéal Martin, the St Eunan’s full-back, was given what appeared to be a harsh black card for a challenge on Caolan McDaid.

Marron smashed a Termon goal past Daffan when Shaun McElwaine had robbed possession from Dunne in the middle of the field.

That made the score 1-11 to 1-6 but Termon wouldn’t get too much closer in the closing stages of the contest as St Eunan’s saw out the hour.

Daire McDaid scored two late points for the hosts but it was St Eunan’s who would be leaving their neighbours with the two points.
