Tir Chonaill Gaels

The club welcomes back all of our members after the festive season and we wish you all a very happy year. A big congratulations to club stalwart Paddy Burke who celebrated a very special birthday last weekend.

Congratulations to J P Boyle and Carol McNicholas on the arrival of their first baby before Christmas. The baby boy has already been seen wearing a Mayo jersey but no doubt in a few years that could change. Well done to club members Mark Gottsche (Secretary) and Seamus Carr (Provincial Council) on their recent appointments onto the county board committee.Condolences to former player Gerard Boyle after the passing by of his father Michael last week at his home in Killybegs, Donegal. Our thoughts and prayers are with Ger and his family at this difficult time. Also condolences to former player Michael Donohoe on the loss of his father in Roscommon before Christmas.

Gleann Fhinne

The lotto numbers for 01/01/14 for the jackpot of €2150 were 6, 7, 8, 3, 4, 2, 5, 1. There was no winner. The lotto numbers for 07/01/14 for the jackpot €2200 were 4, 1, 5, 2, 3, 8, 7, 6. Evelyn McLaughlin matched the first four numbers and won €60. Next week’s Jackpot: €2250. The Donegal Club Yearbook is now available through the Club. They are €10 each. St Mary’s, Convoy

Membership is now due and must be paid by March 17th. The fee is €5 for up to under 12, €10 for up to minor and €30 for Adult. A Registration evening will take place on 31st of Jan from 6-7 pm . This year’s Dinner Dance has been postponed to a later date. The Donegal year book is now available price €10 contact Mairead on 0872140060 or any committee member if you wish to purchase one.

Tickets are now available for the GAA National Club Draw they are priced at €10 each and there are some excellent prizes to be won for example Trip to Australia for 2 people to International Rules series and all Ireland Hurling and Football packages and more. All money raised will go directly to our Club.

This week has been a difficult one for the club following the death of two cherished stalwarts. Sean Toner firstly as a player and later as club administrator. He was a recent recipient of the club Hall of Fame award and held the current roles of club trustee and vice-president. And Geard Monaghan again firstly as a player and the position of assistant manger to the senior football team. Not only did he assist with the team Geard was always on hand to help out the club in anyway and we are grateful to him for all he has done .

They will be sorely missed and everyone at the Club extends sincere sympathy to the families and friends of Sean Toner, Vera McHugh and Geard Monaghan.

Naomh Colmcille

An hour of games and fun activities at Park Colmcille for boys and girls aged 6 –10yrs, starts on Friday 17th January from 6.30 to 7.30 pm. €2 per child and everybody is welcome. Dress for the weather and bring a drink.

Naomh Colmcille and Fanad Gaels are holding a Fight Night fundraising event at the Silver Tassie, Letterkenny on 16 March 2014. We’re now looking for 18 male and 4 female fighters (15 Fights).

Training two nights a week for six weeks in Letterkenny (starts early February 2014). Please Contact Alison (087 9154559). Tickets for the event will be available in February. The GAA has launched a National Club Draw as a fundraiser for local clubs, with the draw taking place on 17th March 2014. Prizes with a total value of €30,000 are being provided by GAA Central Council. The proceeds from all tickets sold by the club will go directly to the club. First prize is a trip to the 2014 International Rules series in Australia. Full list of prizes (ten total) can be seen on the club website, Facebook page and poster at clubhouse. Tickets priced €10 each are now available from Alison Ferry, Paul Callaghan, Adrian Marsh, or any committee member. Well done to Thomas McKinley on his appearance for Donegal in the Dr McKenna cup win against Armagh. Best of luck to Collaiste na Carraige seniors who are in county final on Friday the seniors take on St Columbas, Glenties in the final also in Convoy. Club meeting in Áislann Chill Chartha on Thursday 16th January all members are asked to attend. Aodh Ruadh

Indoor football training starts on Friday 17th January. The 2014 Under 6s [Born 2008-2010] are in the Mercy Hall at Colaiste Cholmcille from 6pm to 7pm followed by the under 8s [Born 2006-2007] from 7pm to 8pm, also in the Mercy Hall. 2014 under 10s [Born 2004-2005] are training in the new hall at Colaiste Cholmcille from 6 pm to 7pm. That session is followed by the 2013 under 12s [Born 2002-2003] from 7pm to 8pm, also in the new hall. There is a charge of €2 per head. Please bring runners as no other footwear allowed. Parents/Guardians are asked to please collect children promptly after their session is finished.

It is mandatory to use a mouth guard in all football matches and training sessions from 1st January 2014 for All age grades. We have a full information sheet detailing the GAA’s mouth guard policy. As we begin 2014 we are starting another scrap metal recycling scheme to raise much needed funds for Aodh Ruadh, we will accept all forms of scrap metal such as fridges, washing machines, gates, car batteries etc for any information contact John Rooney 086-2587793 or Kieran Drummond 086-2368295

The GAA have launched a National Club Draw to help clubs with fund-raising. Croke Park have pulled together an array of prizes far beyond that which most clubs could hope to assemble themselves for such a draw. Clubs sell tickets for the draw and retain All proceeds. Aodh Ruadh are taking part in this initiative. Tickets are €10 each and are printed in books of 10. We have received an initial allocation of 50 books of tickets, but have the option to request further books should sales go well. Anyone who wants to buy a ticket or sell books is asked to contact either Diarmaid Keon or Emma Gaughan (0863039610) or email Old Church Vets Ballyshannon in conjunction with Donegal Vet Clinic and Grange Vet Clinic announce a charity single CD launch by Marion Fitzgerald on Saturday 18th January at 9.30pm in Dicey Reilly’s. There will be music by the Strawberry Jammers featuring Craig McMorrow – who will be appearing on The Voice – Brian Sweeney and Shane Rooney. All proceeds from the charity single go towards Irish Guide Dogs For The Blind, Donegal Pet Rescue, Animals In Need, Sligo Animal Rescue, and the Donkey Sanctuary.

Ballyshannon Rugby Club is hosting a 5K run/walk on Saturday January 25th at 2pm in Ballyshannon. The run will cater for runners and walkers with categories of senior men, senior women, veterans, junior male and female (under 18) and spot prizes for walkers. The event will start at the Abbey Cinema and finish at the Lakeside Centre. Registration on the day from 1pm at the Lakeside centre or pre-register at or contact Martin at 086-8035335.

There was no winner of the €7,200 Aodh Ruadh Lotto jackpot last Sunday. The numbers drawn were 1, 2, 9, 10, 11 and 15. Letterkenny Gaels

The Indoor hurling will not resume for another few weeks. Check the cub website for updates. The GAA have recently launched a national Club Draw as a fund raiser for all clubs. The draw will take place on St Patricks Day. Some excellent prizes with the 1st Prize a trip to Australia. The funds from all ticket sales will remain with the club. Tickets are priced at 10 euro. Four Masters

The Four Masters GAA Club in Donegal Town has proven to be a good bet for five lucky people. The Club Lotto is a major factor in the finances of any club in the country as clubs use it as a means of raising badly needed funds for conducting their activities. The weekly lotto jackpot was recently €3300 and was scooped up by local man Bill Elvin. This is the fifth time in as many months that the jackpot has been won in the locality. The sum total awarded in jackpots alone in the past twelve months comes to €12000. On top of that, when the jackpot is not won, a minimum of two lucky players receive €50 each.

The annual dinner dance will take place in the club on this Saturday the 18th January. This night has been one of the highlights of the club over the last number of years. Tickets are modestly priced at €12.50. Congratulations to Darragh Black on his selection on the Donegal Minor team for 2014. Congratulations to Shannon McGroddy and Amber Barrett who were awarded their Kukri Ulster Schools All Star Team 2014 awards at the weekend. Commiserations to Cathal McGettigan who despite topping the polls for most of the voting ultimately wasn’t selected for the Gaelic Life Team of the Year. Nevertheless, to be nominated for this award was a massive achievement for Cathal and he has done the Club and himself very proud indeed. Congratulations to the Donegal representatives on the team, Neil Gallagher and Michael Murphy of Glenswilly. Crossfit continues for all Senior, Reserve, U21 and Minor players every Monday (8.30pm) and Friday (7.30pm). Anyone interested in playing for the club are expected to attend, all welcome. Cost is e5 per week or e3 per session. Alternatively players can pay e20 for 4 weeks or e40 for the entire 8 week programme.

around the parish and there will be a night in the clubhouse and a

The next senior board meeting will take place on Thursday 23rd January at

9pm in the clubhouse. This meeting will be preceded by a minor board meeting

The following officers were appointed for the coming season: Cathaoirleach- Maghnus Ó Conchubhair, Leas-Chathaoirleach- Donnchadh MacGiolla Bhríde, Rúnaí- Aodh MacLaifeartaigh, Fó-Rúnaí- Eoin Ó Bróin, Cisteoir- Ristor Ó Conghaille, Fó-Chisteoir- Seán MacGiolla Choill, OCP- Proinsias MacAodha, Oifig Na Gaeilge- Sean MacGiolla Bhríde, Ionadaí Bhordna Contae- Aodh MacLaifeartaigh agus Seán Mac Giolla Bhríde.

A players meeting will take place this Saturday 18th January at 6pm in the centre with the new management team. Any player who wishes to play for the senior or reserve teams this season is invited to attend this meeting.
