Colaiste Na Carraige are on the march again and back in another Donegal Vocational Schools Senior Championship final following Thursday’s semi-final victory over Rosses CS, in Convoy.

Colaiste Na Carraige 1-11

Rosses CS 0-10

The Carrick nursery, which has more or less dominated schools football in Donegal over the last five to six years, had four points to spare over a highly fancied Rosses CS in a very competive last four clash.

Full-forward Aodhan McGinley was Colaiste Na Carraige’s top scorer with five points while Chris Doogan scored the all important goal.

Four points separated the sides at half-time, too, with Doogan’s goal the big score in the opening half as the Carrick boys came from three points down early on after Rosses started brightly.

But Doogan’s goal and a couple of point blank saves from Michael Cunningham in the Colaiste Na Carraige goals turned the tide in favour of the winners.

The black carding of Rosses captain Darren Curran after eight minutes was a big blow to the Rosses boys too. Yet, despite the absence of Curran and their four point half-time deficit, the Rosses boys stormed back into the game in the second period. And with Barry Curran attacking on the left wing and Adam Neilly and David McCarron firing over points, the boys from the Rosses had drawn level by the three quarter mark.

But driven on by Paddy Byrne and Aodhan McGinley, Colaiste Na Carraige re-grouped again in the closing minutes to pull away again and book their place in the final.

In the final they will face St. Columbas, Glenties. St Columbas defeated a fancied Abbey VS in the other semi-final. The final is on Friday at the Donegal GAA’s Centre of Excellence in Convoy, throw in 12.30pm.
