Clonoe O’Rahilly’s 1-12

Kilcar 2-7

Kilcar started the brighter of the teams and scored two goals in the first 10 minutes to establish a 2-1 to 0-1 lead, which was the very least their early endeavours deserved.

Ryan McGinley posted the first goal and then Patrick McBrearty struck a second.

However, just three minutes after their second concession, Dwayne Quinn goaled for Clonoe to give them hope of ascertaining a comeback.

Clonoe, the Tyrone champions, stayed in touch as the half bore on but trailed by six points at the half-time whistle, 2-6 to 1-3.

Kilcar also saw Aodhan McGinley, Ryan McHugh and Michael Cunningham kick a point apiece, while McBrearty finished the half with a goal and three points to his name

Whatever Damian Cassidy said to his troops at half time certainly had a massive impact.

Clonoe came out after the break and scored seven unanswered points with Daryl Magee and Declan McClure to the fore.

McClure was excellent at centre-field and certainly provided the driving force for Clonoe in the second half.

First half goalscorer Quinn would also score 1-3 and Clonoe, from being six down, were suddenly a point in front.

McBrearty levelled proceedings in a nip and tuck final quarter but Clonoe weren’t to be denied and the Tyrone side kicked on to win by two points.

Kilcar had their late chances but couldn’t force their way back into the contest. It was a disappointing conclusion after an opening that promised so much for the Towney team.
