Nathan O’Donnell kicked eight points as Naomh Conaill defeated St. Eunan’s to claim the Donegal U-16 League title, in Glenfin, yesterday morning.

Naomh Conaill 0-13

St. Eunan’s 1-9

While O’Donnell stole the show in the scoring stakes this was a good all round team performance from the boys in blue and white with Maitís McKelvey, Jon Molloy, Conal McDevitt Jack Flannery, Ciaran Gallagher and David Keeney all turing in big performances.

At the end of a highly enteraining and pretty even contest St. Eunan’s had big performances from Odhran McGinley, Ciaran Maloney, Darragh McWalters, Niall O’Donnell and Pierce Gallagher who were very unlucky to be on the losing side at the finish.

It was all square at half-time, Naomh Conaill 0-7, St. Eunan’s 1-4. Along with O’Donnell, David Keeney, Jack Flannery and Ciaran Gallagher got their names on the scoresheet for Noamh Conaill in the opening 30 minutes.

Brian McIntyre, Jake Whelan, Darragh McWalters and Niall O’ Donnell kicked the points and Ciaran Maloney scored the goal for St. Eunan’s who lost their star forward Rory Carr, to injury in the first minute. Carr came off worst in a collision with Naomh Conaill goalkeeper Tony Byrne.

Naomh Conaill forged three ahead again at the start of the second half with points from Paul McGuinness, O’Donnell and Maitís McKelvey. And with Niall O’Donnell and Paddy Ryan kept St. Eunan’s scoreboard ticking, the teams were level by the early minutes of the final quarter at Naomh Conaill 0-12, St. Eunan’s 1-9.

O’Donnell broke the deadlock again to kick Naomh Conaill back in front with eight minutes remaining and while St. Eunan’s pressed late on and missed a number of good chances, Naomh Conaill held on for a win their tenacity and hunger just about deserved.
