St. Eunans Ladies powered their way to a County semi-final meeting with Moville with a comprehensive victory over Convoy on Friday night last.

St. Eunan’s 3-13

Convoy 0-3

Convoy, who play in the Intermediate league, but who won the Intermediate Championship last yea,r were going to be up against it from the start.

The game was switched from Sunday to Friday night to accommodate a wedding within the Convoy ranks, which took place on Saturday.

Eunans had the best start possible with a goal from corner forward Danielle Fay on 45 seconds.

Fay followed this up with a point a minute later. Convoy, who settled quicker into the game, despite the early Eunans scores, then had the lion’s share of the play for the next ten minutes with efforts from County player Niamh Mailey and Caoimhe Brown failing to raise a flag.

On 14 minutes however, the white flag was raised at the other end with a fine point from one of three Eunan’s representatives on the Senior County panel, Rose Boyle.

Eunans followed this up with points from Nakita Burke and Niamh Mc Menamin and another goal from Danielle Fay, with Niamh Mailey pointing for Convoy, to leave the half time score Convoy 0-01 St. Eunans 2-03.

Eunan’s piled on the pressure from the re-start and chalked up 5 quick points from Rosé Boyle, Lauren O’ Connell, Lauren Harper, Nakita Burke and half back Catherine Boyle. These scores effectively ended the game as a competition and Eunans, buoyed by this, seemed to get stronger as the game progressed.

Three points from Minor county panellist Sinead Hession, another one from Danielle Fay (which took her total to 2-02 for the day), and one from Natalie Mc Fadden left it 2-13 to 0-02 after Mailey pointed again for Convoy with two minutes to go.

Eunan’s substitute Lauren Harper sealed the win with a fine individual goal just on the whistle to send Eunans forward to the Semi finals on August 25th.

This game was played with both teams missing key players (Eunans had 2 players, Bernie Cunningham and Suzi Tinney married within 2 weeks) and on reflection, the scoreboard did Convoy no justice, with Eunan’s able to convert their chances with more regularity than Convoy.
