Tir Chonaill Gaels

The senior team played Fulham Irish last Thursday in the replay of the Conway cup after the drawn match on the previous Friday.

Played in the Scrubs it was Fulham who got off to the better start with four unanswered points in the opening five minutes. Although playing into the breeze the Gaels had numerous chances with Liam Gavaghan, John Mc Grath and Marty Mc Coy registering scores. At half time Fulham went in with a lead of 0-7 to 0-4, but with the breeze on their backs the lads piled on the pressure in the 2nd half with some excellent play all round with special mention for Marty Mc Coy, Jonnie Mc Nicholas, Luke Kavanagh and Kevin McMenamin.

Final score TCG 1-10 to 0-9.

Last Sunday we defeated a spirited Cuchullains team in the league at a scorching Greenford by a score of 1-23 to 3-6.

Best on the day were Damian Donnellan, Luke Kavanagh, Eoin Mageean and John Mc Grath.

After a shaky start to the season, the junior team turned on the style with a comprehensive performance against a fancied St Anthonys last Sunday in the championship.

Played in scorching conditions at Ruislip, the Gaels put on a display not shown to date this season and have put down a marker.

The first half was nip and tuck with both defences not giving an inch and with it showing on the half hour mark a score line of 1-1 to 0-1 in favour of the Gaels.

The goal courtesy of Kieran Cunningham after a fine build up involving Patrick and John Flynn and Liam Gavaghan.

In the second half the Young Guns turned the screw with another goal coming from Ryan Kearney and points from Gavaghan, Flynn, Fortune, Moriarty and Cunningham.

This was a great all round team performance with the defence back to their measly best and Tommy Moriarty giving a man of the match performance.

The seniors have a huge do or die, winner takes all clash with Naomh Ultan this Saturday in Killygordon at 8 pm. Having won the first leg at home by 3-10 to 0-8 the Seniors were favourites going into the second leg in Dunkineely but a 0-13 to 1-7 defeat means that they will now play a playoff to determine who will progress to the semi-final.

Milford drew irst blood against Convoy on Wednesday in the championship. In a tight opening thirty minutes scores were pretty much tit for tat as the sides went in 1-5 a piece at the break. Ten minutes into the second half however the boys in blue stretched their lead to four points before being pegged back by Convoy’s second goal of the game.

With ten minutes left on the clock the tenacious Kane Barrett got na Galloglaighs second goal and from there on in they never looked like leaving this game behind them to run out winners by a six point margin, although they had a late scare in the closing minutes when Gavin McFadden produced a magnificent save from a Convoy penalty.

Manager Nigel Black praised the performances of Caolan Bolton, Jason Mc Conigley, Brandon Toye and Gavin McFadden for his young charges. Team: Gavin McFadden, Jason McConigley, Gavin Grier, Kieran Sheridan, Darragh McGettigan, Dominic Hull (0-1), Brandon Toye, Caolan Bolton, Kane Barrett (2-5), Emmett Conaghan, Ryan McDaid (0-1), Darragh Black (0-5), Hugh McMenamin (0-1). Subs: Kyle McCauley, Finian Ferry, Luke Trearty, Odhran Coll, Shay Durning.

The U-16s picked up their second win of the league campaign, after a nail-biting finale against Buncrana in Milford on Monday night. The na Galloglaigh men got off to a great start with Kane Barrett scoring two goals within the opening five minutes. Cormac Toland added a point to put Milford in control. Buncrana gradually worked their way into the game to kick the next two points, but two fine efforts from Barrett and Connor Gormley kept the boys in blue on top. The Inishowen outfit dominated the final ten minutes of the half posting three scores, but points from Barrett (free) and Duncan Patterson ensured Milford were six points ahead at the interval. The second half was disappointing from a Milford perspective as they allowed their opponents to score three goals and two points. However, crucial goals from Barrett and Patterson kept Milford ahead, and they showed impressive character to hold on at the death, as Buncrana went in search of a winning goal. Kieran Sheridan was outstanding for Milford, while Gavin Grier and Kane Barrett showed great leadership in the second half. Team: Gavin McFadden, Patrick Ferry, Kieran Sheridan, Ronan Doherty, Shay Durning, Gavin Grier, Odhran Coll, Luke Trearty, Cormac Toland (0-1), Jason Scullion, Connor Gormley (0-1), Shane McNamee, Conor McHugh, Kane Barrett (3-2), Duncan Patterson (1-2). Subs: Dane Dunworth, Daire Crossan, Martin Doyle.
