Naomh Conaill 1-8

Four Masters 0-6

The Glenties men made hard work of this tie but in the end they stuttered over the line

However, they were the better side, especially up and and if they had taken all their chances they would have won more convincingl.

For much of the opening half Four Masters led ecause they were more clinical in front of the posts with Gareth Britton, Benny and Ciaran Cassidy notching good points.

Naomh Conaill had two goal chances in the first quarter, Joe Kennedy denied by a great save from Sean Martin and Enda Bonner stopped the rebound from Conal McNelis, while McNelis pulled wide when straight through on 12 minutes.

The goal they threatened arrived on 27 minutes with McNelis creating the opening, crossing for Jamie McHugh to tap home from close range and leave his side 1-4 to 0-5 ahead at the break.

Joe Kennedy burst through for a very good point early in the second half but it was cancelled by an equally good effort from Ciaran Cassidy on 38 minutes.

However, that was to be Masters’ last score and Naomh Conaill were able to do enough to get over the line with points from Kevin McGettigan (2) and Stephen Molloy. In all the wing half-backs accounted for four of the Naomh Conaill points, which was a significant contribution.

They are capable of creating goal chances and if they can take enough of them they will be hard to beat in the final.
