St Eunan’s 3-18

St Michael’s 2-2

Donnacha Gallagher scored 2-5 in his first appearance against the side from Dunfanaghy, while Lee McMonagle was also a goalscorer for the reigning county champions.

At half-time, St Eunan’s were 3-9 to 0-0 up, although the visitors did improve somewhat after the break and goals from Daniel McLaughlin and Peter Witherow lifted their supporters’ gloom.

In seven All-County Football League Division One games at O’Donnell Park, St Eunan’s have scored 14-88 - an average of 20 points.

St Michael’s are the only side to have beaten St Eunan’s this term, 2-11 to 1-5 at the Bridge in April, but without at least 10 regulars struggled from the off.

St Eunan’s netted three times in the first half and the damage could’ve been significantly worse were it not for Ciaran Gallagher, who made three excellent saves.

Thomas O’Donnell also cleared a Sean McVeigh effort off the goal line.

McMonagle scored the opening goal on eight minutes when he slapped in after Gallagher had stopped a Kevin Rafferty shot.

Then, on 10 minutes, Donnacha Gallagher smashed home a second after being set up by Eamonn Doherty.

As the half bore to a close, Gallaher registered his second goal after John Haran’s assist.

St Eunan’s were much more pedestrian in the second half and Stephen Coyle’s free on 33 minutes opened the St Michael’s account.

Daniel McLaughlin, after a give-and-go with Martin McElhinney scored the goal of the game on 34, piercing his shot past Damian Martin.

Peter Witherow then tucked in for St Michael’s two minutes later when he was given the opportunity by McElhinney.

The concession of two goals wouldn’t have satisfied St Eunan’s manager Eamon O’Boyle but his team continued to knock over points to seal another comfortable home win.
