Naomh Conaill 1-9

Malin 1-9

It was a similar story to the championship meeting of the sides in June when Malin stormed back for the draw that ultimately saw them progress at the expense of last year’s beaten county finalists.

Naomh Conaill got of to a great start when Dermot Molloy found the net in the first minute.

Anthony Kelly tapped over a few frees for Malin but Naomh Conaill with the advantage of the breeze went in at the break leading 1-5 to 0-3 with Brendan Mc Dyer, Leon Thompson(2), Marty Boyle and Molloy on the scoreboard for the home team with Damian Harkin pointing for Malin at the end of the half.

Leon Thompson and Brendan Mc Dyer knocked over points early in the second half to stretch their lead out to seven points.

Anthony Kelly and Daniel Mc Daid kept Malin in touch but points from Brick Molloy and Brendan Mc Dyer saw Naomh Conaill leading by seven points with 12 minutes left.

Malin were given a lifeline with a goal from sub Alan Byrne on the 49th minute and they went on to hit four unanswered points from Anthony Kelly(0-3, 2 frees) and the equaliser coming from Seamus Mc Laughlin deep in stoppage time.

The Inishowen side had won the corresponding league match by a single point, 2-4 to 0-9, back in March.

The draw means that Malin remain a single point ahead of Paddy Campbell’s side, who are in fifth place, in the table.
