Our annual charity St Brigid Cross Making Night will take place at the club for the Across Charity on Friday night January 29th. The rushes are being flown in especially from Donegal. Adults £5 (to include Irish Stew), Children Free. Raffle on the night - prizes welcome. and Traditional Music.
This year’s dinner dance will be held on Saturday the 30th of January in the Malin Hotel. There was no winner of this week’s jackpot of €750. The numbers drawn were 5-7-2-4-1-6-3 and the €50 winner was Annie Hunter, Slievebann, Malin Head with the €20 seller prize going to Stephen Farren, Slievebann. Next week’s jackpot is €800.
Well done to Martin O’Reilly who turned in a superb performance for the Donegal team in their win over Down on Sunday.

The Under 21 final was again postponed due to the poor weather conditions no date has been set for it to be played, Stephen McBrearty and Eoin McHugh started in the Donegal side that beat Down in the McKenna Cup on Sunday. Conor Doherty and Andrew McClean were involved in the Donegal Under 21 side that defeated Sligo at the weekend.

The annual presentation buffett took place last Tuesday night in the Arena 7. The Club Person of the Year was awarded to James Frain while presentations were made to the following players; senior players of the year; Darren Hunter and Kevin Kilkenny, reserve player of theyear: Bobby Carey, most improved player of the year: Sean McDonagh, under 21 player of the year: Conor McBrearty,minor players of the year: Shane Graham and Cormac Cannon.

The minor board presentation night was held on Monday the 28th of December in the clubhouse. County panellist Ryan McHugh of Kilcar and Donegal senior hurler Sean McVeigh were the guests.
The senior presentation night was also held on the 28th of December in the Stepping Stone, Dungloe. The categories and winners are as follows; young ladies senior player of the year: Anna Sweeney; ladies senior player of the year: Niamh Rodgers; reserves young player of the year: James McCole; reserve player of the year: Mark Clerkin; young senior player of the year; Darren Curran; senior player of the year: Doalty Boyle;club person of the year: Davy Mc Carron Guest of Honour on the night was our very own Aideen Gillen, county board secretary.
A special mention to Dermot Logue who was initiated into to Hall of Fame. Dermot was present with his wife Mary and children Eimear and Peter on the night. Dermot was a member of the team which won the Donegal senior championship in 1958.
We wish to offer our congratulations to Danny Rodgers who made his debut for the Donegal senior panel on Sunday against Down in the McKenna Cup.
Well done to Catriona Solan, who sang Amhran na bhFiann at the first Donegal game of the year in MacCumhaill Park. Catriona was accompanied by her sister Brid who played the guitar.
The Donegal u21s played Sligo in the North West u21 cup. The game was played in Ballyshannon, and featured Jack Scally, Darren Curran and Adam Neely who was denied a goal but scored an excellent point.
Hurling training will resume on Tuesday the 12th of January in the RCS hall. U12 and U14 training will be from 7-8 and U8 and U10.

The Donegal under 21s were in action in Páirc Aoidh Ruaidh on Saturday as they took on Sligo in the North West Cup. Niall Harley and Colm Kelly both made appearances from the bench as the hosts scored a 2-7 to 0-9 win in the opening game of the campaign.
The club thanks all the players who played in the Colman Kerr charity games in such dreadful conditions on Bank Holiday Monday 28th December. Despite the conditions people were very generous and we were delighted to raise €1,400.

Ardara GAA Awards Night: The GAA Club held their end of year awards night for the first time in the clubhouse on Tuesday 29th December. This was also a night of acknowledgement to all those who helped with the new building, the All Ireland Gaeltacht as well as adult teams and in general all workers in the Club.
Thanks to Gerry Friel and Damian Diver of Divers Centra who prepared the meats, to the GAA Ladies who helped prepare and serve the buffet on the night: Siobhan Breslin, Breda Boyle, Caroline Breslin, Peggy Gallagher, Mary Gallagher and Mary Sweeney. To all those who sponsored food on the night: Gallaghers Bakery, Conal A Gildea, Rosemary Whelan, Shiela Sweeney, Breda Boyle and Philomena Whyte. The Patsy Boyle Memorial Club Person of the Year was presented by Breda Boyle to Hugh G. Gavigan while the chairman Stephen McCahill presented Hugh’s wife Eileen with a basket of Flowers. The Charlie Bennett Hall of Fame Award was presented by Marian Bennett to Cathal McGill which was read on the night by Bart Whelan and was accepted on his behalf by his brother Padraig. An Appreciation Award sponsored by Packie and Josephine Maguire was presented to George Doherty. On the night also a special Award was made to the club chairman for his long standing years with the club both as treasurer and chairman.
This award was presented by Vice Chairman James McHugh. The Senior Ladies received their County Gaeltacht medals from both Hugh G Gavigan and George Doherty. Carol Breslin was presented with an award to mark her achievements with the Donegal Senior Ladies. The Reserve Team were presented with their league medals by special guest Pat Conaghan. The individual Player of the Year Awards went to the following: Ladies Player of the Year – sponsored by Divers Centra – went to Maria Diver and was presented by Damian Diver; Minor Player of the Year – sponsored by McWhinneys Supermarket – went to Jack Brennan and was presented by Tomas McWhinnie; Third Team Player of the Year – sponsored by Ardara Launderette – went to Tony Harkin and presented by Brendan Boyle; Reserve Team Player of the Year – sponsored by Early Transport – went to Peter McHugh and was presented by Don Early; Tommy Boyle Memorial Senior Player of the Year – sponsored by the Boyle Family – went to Brendan Boyle and was presented by Ann Conaghan and Eileen Hegarty. After the buffet and awards there was music to end the night.

Operation Reformation kicks start this week! On Thur the 7th of Jan (5-8pm) there will be a Health and Wellbeing and Registration evening for Operation Reformation! People will have the opportunity to have their Blood Pressure, Blood Sugar, BMI and Weight checked on the night. There will also be tables with various information, all in relation to Health and Wellbeing!
Operation Reformation will begin on Tuesday the 12th of January from 7-8pm in St.Catherines Voc.School, this will involve an exercise class with John Conwell and on Thur eves, 7-8pm there will be a walk/run. There will be a €5 charge each week which will be donated to a chosen charity.
The Minor board AGM is on Sunday January 10th at 6pm in the Tara Hotel.
The Senior board AGM will take place on Sunday the 17th of January.
On Saturday night last the Donegal LGFA awards dinner was held in the Clanree Hotel in Letterkenny and our very own Niamh Hegarty got to pick up the Donegal Ladies Senior player of the year. Many congratulations Niamh on your award.
Niamh along with Ciara Hegarty and Niamh McLaughlin also received their Ulster winners medals on the night while Blaithnaid Mc Laughlin & Charmaine Mc Dermott received their All Ireland B medals.
On New Years Eve in near perfect weather conditions 7 teams battled it out in the annual 7 a side tag football and after the round robin set of fixtures the final came down to the top two to battle it out for the top honours. The final was a close affair until the second half when Antrim lead by Gemma McMonagle & Maurice Harkin got their tactics to work and overcame a Kerry side lead by Nigel McMonagle & Michelle Logue with Gemma striking the all important goal to win it for Antrim. Well done to all teams for a fantastic day and to the referees who officiated the games superbly. Thanks to Seamus Hegarty for organising the day and to all who provided the refreshments of soup and tea on the day.
