Fine Gael Deputy Dinny McGinley says the people have delivered a very clear message to Government.

The Deputy arrived in the Highland’s Hotel in Glenties shortly after local Fine Gael candidate, John Curran was eliminated from the race.

He said: “Certainly, it’s a very different election, we’ve taken a hit in nearly every part of the country and here as well. The people have delivered a very strong message that will have to be considered very carefully in the coming days by the government.”

He added that while progress has been made in the economic sense, a lot of people have suffered.

“That’s the message, the people have suffered because of the measures we had to adopt to bring to get the economy back on an even keel. When medicine has to be administered, the administrator is never a very favourable person,” he said.

He added that employment is rising, that Ireland is back in the international money in the European markets and that borrowing is down.

“We must make sure that the benefits percolate down to the women and men of the country”.

He added that it was a mid-term election and that this type of election is always used to send a message to the government.

He added that a general election would be very different.
