Donegal victims of sex abuse are set to come together for the first time ever in an organised group meeting in Gortahork this week. The objective of this meeting will be to help and heal those who have suffered as children at the hands of abusers and to destigmatise issues relating to the abuse.

Martin Ridge, the man responsible for lifting the lid on the litany of abuse instigated by former priest, Eugene Greene and Denis McGinley will be the guest speaker at the inaugural meeting which will take place at Óstán Loch Altan at 8 o’clock this Thursday.

“These children had to carry these crosses themselves in silence, this silence was utilised by their abuser to ensure anonymity,” he said.

The meeting is being organised by journalist Sean Hillen who was approached by locals from the Gortahork area who urged him to establish a group that would help them bring the issue of abuse to the fore. The new self-support group will be entitled “EMBRACE.” The meeting will be open to all members of the public who wish to attend .
