The HSE has issued a statement in relation to the death of 15 year old Shannon Gallagher and indicated in their statement they were working closely with the school and local community to provide a wide range of support through psychology and mental health services.
The HSE statement in full, is as follows:
“The HSE has been notified of a tragic unexpected death in Donegal. The HSE extends its deepest sympathies to the family and friends of the deceased. Currently the HSE is liaising with the family in relation to this incident and all supports are being made available to provide assistance at this very difficult time.
“The HSE is also working closely with the school and local community to provide a wide range of support through psychology and mental health services. Significant mobilisation of services has taken place today. A local incident management group is ensuring that all services and supports are co-ordinated and provided on an ongoing basis to the family and wider community. Supports are also being offered to the staff and students in Finn Valley College in collaboration with National Educational Psychological Service (NEPS).
“HSE and NEPS staff are providing drop-in sessions in local schools over the next few days for parents who have any concerns about their children. The HSE has also contacted all GPs in the surrounding area to advise them of a direct referral service that has been put in place for vulnerable teenagers.
“A LOCAL Helpline has been established for parents FROM DONEGAL ONLY who have concerns about their children. This Helpline can be contacted at 1850 400 911 and is now live. The helpline is available from 12 noon to 10:00pm daily including Saturday and Sunday.
“Families engage with the HSE on the basis of confidentiality. The HSE respects the confidential nature of this engagement with the services and does not comment on individuals.”
Mayor issues statement
Meanwhile, The Mayor of Donegal, Cllr Frank McBrearty has also issued a statement where he stated he wishes to express his sincerest condolences to the family and friends of the late Shannon Gallagher. His thoughts and prayers are with Shannon’s family, friends and her wider community at this very sad time.
The statement goes on: “The Mayor would like to ask that the relevant authorities be given the time and space to review the circumstances of this tragedy so as to allow them to respond in the most appropriate way. He is also asking that the wishes of the family for privacy at this very sad time be respected by all concerned.”
