Three friends are in rigorous training for what many would regards as an impossible challenge-cycling non-stop from Malin to Mizen in 24 hours, the route that now comprises the Wild Atlantic Way.

Most people would regard this 650K trip as a bit of a challenge in a car not to talk about a non stop cycle but for this trio it is their way of raising funds for a very worthwhile charity.

Tony Cummins, Gerry Cleary and Aidan Ferguson are taking on the marathon challenge of cycling non-stop from Malin Head to Mizen on June 20 and 21 in aid of Multiple Sclerosis.

The trio have been out training 5 nights a week for the last six months in all kinds of weather and have even managed to clock up 160k on Saturday last.

Elanor Rooney who is handling the PR for the event said, “This is a genuine 650k non-stop -its not a relay the three lads will all cycle the full distance.

In order to maximise the fundraising for this worthy charity there will be a few events taking place with the main event - • “Lap the Lake” - a cycle around Lough Melvin on Saturday next starting at Garrison at 11.00am. This will be a fun cycle for all the family and the public are asked to join in donating a small fee of €10.

Sponsors which have come on board to date:- Mc Devitt & Mc Glynn Accts, Cara Pharmacy, VP Mc Mullin Solicitors, O’Donnell’s Bakery, and Gary’s Cycles, PK Motors and Pillbox.

Full details of the “Lap of the Lake” on Saturday next.

• “Lap the Lake” - a cycle around Lough Melvin inviting the public to join them for a few laps and paying a donation of €10/£10. Food will also be provided on the day for a small donation.

Future Fundraising will include;

A Bed Push from Bundoran to Ballyshannon on 7th June

• Launch Night 7th June in Dicey Reilly’s, Ballyshannon with music, craic and raffle prizes.

• A Car Wash Day with the N.I. Fire Service in Belleek in May, date TBC

• People can also donate funds online through http://www.mycharity.ie/event/mizen_to_malin_non-stop_24_hours or

• via any AIB branch throughout Ireland “Mizen-Malin non stop for M.S.” (IBAN – IE46AIBK93718514442040)

So there are lots of opportunities for people to get involved and donate some money. All funds raised will be split equally between the Donegal and Fermanagh branches of Multiple Sclerosis. Any help or donations will be greatly appreciated by all the team and the benefactors.
