Political vision is all important but Donegal North East TD Joe McHugh has done something recently to ensure he is seeing things even more clearly than ever.
For more than 20 years the Carrigart-born Fine Gael politician has sported a pair of spectacles, but as sharp-eyed viewers to ‘The Week in Politics’ on RTE noticed last Sunday, Joe has ditched the glasses - thanks to laser treatment.
“I was short-sighted and wore glasses out of necessity. Two weeks ago I had laser treatment in one eye and last weekend, had my other eye done, and while it was a little uncomfortable at first, I am now able to do my business without glasses,” the 38-year-old deputy told the Donegal Democrat.
Joe agreed that the surgery had “been a complete success” and slagging apart from a few political colleagues who noticed he was no longer wearing glasses, he agreed that the improved vision would leave even more focussed than ever on the job at hand.
