Damage from the tidal storms in early January will cost €1.89 million to repair, according to Donegal County Council.

A council spokesperson confirmed this week that this is the figure submitted by the local authority to the Department of Environment, Community and Local Government, as the government tries to work out its funding strategy for rebuilding.

The spokesperson said: “This report includes details of damage and the repairs or new works required to strengthen coastal defences, and includes details of 47 sites along the county’s coastline.”

The figure does not include privately owned property.
