While the two outgoing candidates were selected to contest the local elections in May there was widespread speculation that a third name may well be added.

Despite the extremely adverse weather condtions a large crowd attended the Donegal Electoral Area Fine Gael selection convention in the Abbey Hotel, in Donegal Town where sitting councillors Barry O’Neill and John Boyle were both selected to represent Fine Gael at the Local Elections in May.

There was speculation after the meeting that the Fine Gael HQ would add a third candidate to the race and a number of names were being actively discussed by the delegates.
