Donegal Senator Brian Ó Domhnaill has lost his High Court challenge against an investigation by the Standards in Public Office Commission (SIPO) into alleged duplication of expenses claims.
Senator O’Domhnaill argued that his case should be heard by a commission comprising of bilingual members, who were able to conduct and understand the proceedings without the assistance of an interpreter.
The action related to an investigation concerning travel and subsistence claims made by the Senator between 2006 and 2007, when he was a member of Donegal County Council.
In his judicial review proceedings, Mr O Domhnaill claims that SIPO is not entitled to deal with the case on the grounds that the matter arose from an anonymous complaint by a member of the public.
Judge Desmond Hogan ruled against Senator O Domhnaill and said a ruling will be made about the costs of the High Court challenge at the end of the month
