There was great sadness in the Creeslough and Dunfanaghy areas, and far beyond, on learning of the death of Seamus Harkin, late of Derryart, Creeslough, on Friday evening.
He passed away in Letterkenny General Hospital after a recent illness. He was in his late 70’s.
Seamus was very well known and a highly respected member of his local community for his work as a local undertaker, as well as his strong community spirit and his love of music and the arts.
Seamus was a highly regarded artist on the music scene and over the years played all over the country as well as many times abroad and far a field as America.
He was also a prolific writer and authored several books including his popular memoir “It took a lifetime”.
A dedicated member of his local church, he was well regarded as having time for everyone, a strong supporter of local charity work and a kind hearted man with a unique knack of telling a great story.
He is survived by his wife Tessie, sons Leo, Mark, Paul and James, daughter Edel. daughters in law, grandchildren, extended family and wide circle of friends.
He will be laid to rest yesterday (Monday) in Doe Cemetery after requiem mass at St Michael’s Church, Creeslough.
