Gardaí have thanked the public for their response to the appeal for information after a pensioner was assaulted in her home during an aggravated burglary near Kerrykeel.
The woman, 75-year-old German national Heike Mueller was assaulted when three men broke knocked at her house and held her for half an hour as they searched the house for valuables.
Inspector Michael Harrison, who described the attack as evil, said there had been a good response from the local community to the appeal for information.
“The investigation is ongoing. We have had quite a considerable assistance from the local community and we are very thankful for that. People in the area are disgusted with the crime. It is a very much a live investigations and hopefully we will be progressing it in the new year,” Inspector Harrison said.
The three men who entered the house are described as having local accents. They held Ms Mueller and shook her as they searched the house. They also ripped out the phone line which disabled the panic alarm, but left empty-handed.
