Powerful memories of convent laundry life

A well-known Stranorlar woman gave a personal and poignant account of her time in a convent laundry, where she said long days were spent at work and prayer, and letters she wrote seeking another position were never posted.

“You did your chores, you cleaned the whole dormitory before you went to mass,” said Frances McLaughlin of Stranorlar.

“Then you got a bit of breakfast after that and then you headed straight into the laundry.”
