There has been another attack on a pensioner during a robbery in the county.

An elderly man in Glenties was robbed at his home in an attack which took place between 5pm and 8.00pm on Thursday. A legally held firearm and a small sum of money were taken in the robbery.

The attack took place at Station Road in the town. The pensioner was tied up by the raiders who then ransacked his home. The man was left in a distressed state after the incident.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area to contact them.

Inspector Denis Joyce said: “After the raiders left, he managed to make his way to a neighbours home and they raised the alarm.

“The gardaí are appealing to anyone who was in Glenties between 2pm and 10pm and saw anything suspicious to contact them at Glenties Garda Station on (074) 955 1108.”

The latest attack came less than 24 hours after a meeting in Manorcunningham to discuss similar attacks on elderly people in the community there.
