No cost as yet on recent LGH flood

There is no figure available in relation to the cost of damage incurred by Letterkenny General Hospitalas a result of the recent flood which took place at the begining of August.

A spokesperson for the hospital said that the figures will first need to be submitted to the rebuild steering group and that the figure may not be available this week.

The emergency department at the hospital flooded on August 5 last after a heavy downpour of rain. A hospital statement said a “very low level of flooding” had affected the reception and administrative areas.

Severe flooding last year damaged 40% of the hospital and forced the closures of many departments. In March of this year, the new emergency department was officially opened by then minister for health James Reilly. It is located in a new medical block, which cost €24m.

An investigation into the flooding began the day after the incident took place.
