Letterkenny man Dessie Larkin has been appointed as the new Letterkenny Town Centre manager.
Mr Larkin, who recently retired from politics, having served on Donegal and Letterkenny councils, will be tasked with injecting new life into the centre of the Cathedral town. The Lower Main Street native is hugely popular, highly respected and has considerable political and business contacts.
“We are confident that the new Town Centre Manager has all the key skills required to bring together all the key stakeholders in implementing the plan to revitalise the town centre. His appointment will be instrumental in giving this initiative a future beyond its initial one year,” Mark Bundschu, who has been leading the initiative, stated.
One in six properties in the town centre are now empty and Mr Larkin will, among other tasks, be working to attract new retailers to fill these empty properties.
Mr Larkin told the Democrat: “I’m delighted with the appointment and the aim will be to sustain what is there and obviously to increase footfall and attract new businesses.”
Mr Larkin, who has an honours degree in Public Management, was in politics since November 1998 until May of this year.
44, he’s married to Mary and they have four children.
