Anglo made €8.2m loan to former finance director, Donegal man William McAteer on the same day that the government brought in the bank guarantee, according to a report in today’s Sunday Independent.

He is awaiting sentencing but will not be sent to prison after being convicted last week, along with former Anglo CEO David Drumm, of illegally making loans to the ‘Maple 10’ so they could buy Anglo’s shares.

McAteer’s loan was also related to the bank’s share price, the Indo reported.
