A country mansion ouside Manorcunningham was extensively damaged by fire last night.

Fire broke out at Sharon Glebe country house circa 8pm and fire fighters fought to contain the blaze for several hours.

Gardai say there are no reports of injuries but part of the property, valued at circa €1.3 million, was badly damaged, as can be seen from our photo taken this morning.

An area to the froont of the former rectory was badly damaged and, as can be seen from our photograph, a roof collapsed under the power of the flames.

Roads into the property have been closed to traffic today with workmen sealing up the damaged property.

Locals have praised the quick response of the fire service.
