Letterkenny’s litter improvement

Letterkenny has ended 2013 in 11th position in Irish Business Against Litter’s Anti-Litter League of 42 towns, and is deemed ‘Cleaner than European Norms’.

It is a dramatic improvement on the previous monitoring in 2011, when the town was branded as ‘littered’ and was towards the bottom of the rankings. An Taisce, who were commissioned by IBAL to carry out the survey, reported: “In spite of the misgivings of some of the elected representatives, the efforts of the people of Letterkenny and the council are reflected in this excellent result.

“Carrying on from Buncrana, Letterkenny maintains the high standard for Donegal, a top tourist destination. high standard for Donegal, a top tourist destination.

“It is not going to be easy to stay near the top – most towns in the IBAL Anti-Litter League see the benefit in being well presented and will continue their increasing effort into the future. The Radisson Hotel was outstanding.”

In all 19 towns were cleaner than the European average.
