A Donegal man is recovering in hospital after miraculously surviving being hit by a high speed train while jogging.
Kevin Rooney from Letterkenny survived the accident while he was out running in The Hague in the Netherlands where he has lived for more than ten years. The 40-year-old sustained multiple fractures in the accident and was treated in an intensive care unit.
Speaking last night, Kevin’s older brother Philip said Kevin was doing very well. And while he remains in hospital, he has been released from intensive care. “There is a fair bit of internal damage and his arm and his leg were badly injured. But hopefully he’s going to make a full recovery,” he said.
“My mum had been hoping to go over to Holland to be with Kevin, but the hospitals over there only allow you to visit for half an hour at a time when someone is in ICU. Kevin’s girlfriend, Fiana, is there with him and to be honest, he will probably need more help when he actually gets released from hospital. He’ll be wheelchair-bound for a while and won’t be able to do much for himself. So mum’s hoping now to get over before Christmas.”
