The last week has seen increasing activity on the local political front with speculation rife as to who will be seeking election to the County Council in May.

The Donegal Democrat can reveal tonight that the popular and well known community activist Niamh (McGilloway) Kennedy of Killybegs will be running as an Independent candidate.

Niamh has been deeply immersed in local politics in the sea port town and has been involved in much of the developmental work that has taken place.

She has been and is currently the Chairperson of the Killybegs Community Council which works for the overall betterment of the town.

Niamh told the Donegal Democrat this evening (Sunday), “I am not just putting my name forward to make up numbers - I have worked hard in this community for years and feel that I have built up both the experience and the network to maximise the opportunities in this town.

“I feel that as an Independent I can achieve more rather than be bound by a party whip and give the people of south and west Donegal an independent voice at the council table.”
