A county Kerry woman who had to be airlifted from Ards Forest Park after sustaining a broken leg while out walking has hailed those involved in her rescue as “the best in the world”.

Meg Elam, wrote to the Donegal Democrat to help publicly pass on her sincere gratitude to all the agencies involved in her ordeal last week.

She says she wished to pass her “extremely grateful thanks” to all those who helped in rescuing her in Ards Forest park, near Creeslough, last Wednesday week.

She explains: “As well as the Coast Guard there was the helicopter crew, ambulance men, mountain rescue, as well as the Gardaí. Words cannot express how utterly grateful I am to all of them, they are the best of the best. The speed and efficiency of them all was the best in the world and their kindness and compassion was second to none.

Meg says she would also like to acknowledge the care she received in Letterkenny General Hospital.

“I would also like to send my very grateful thanks to Letterkenny Hospital, again the speed, efficiency and kindness of all the staff reduced me to tears, they are all Angels, nothing was too much trouble for them. We are now back home in Co. Kerry and hopefully will make a good recovery from the broken leg!! We won’t forget this holiday for a long time. Thank you from the bottom of my heart,” she added.
