A garda serving in Donegal convicted of sexually assaulting one female colleague, and harassing her and another female colleague, has been given a six month prison sentence and fined €10,000 at Letterkenny Circuit Court this afternoon.

Father of three, Garda Kevin Corby, who lives in Stranorlar, was convicted by a jury last November, after pleading not guilty to the charges.

At today’s sentencing hearing the prison term handed down was substituted for 240 community service.

Today, judge John O’Hagan said both the Gardai and the public expected “high standards” from officers and his harassment was “consistent and persistent” and used to “undermine fellow officers”.

Reading part of one of the victim impact statements the judge said his victims were “tormented and sickened by his remarks and sexual innuendo”.
