Ballyshannon, making connections with French town of Grenay will see 63 visitors to the town this Easter.

Ballyshannon will be hosting a delegation from Grenay in France, on Easter Weekend.

The delegation will include 63 visiting musicians who will liaise with local musicians in a celebration in the Abbey Centre on Easter Sunday night.

The arrangement comes from a visit by the Mayor Grenay for the Allingham Festival in November.

Town Clerk Mary Daly told the town council meeting that Backing Ballyshannon had the launch of its calendar on February 15.

Copies were handed out at the meeting.

An on-line version was also available.

The clerk added that they had correspondence from the mayor of Grenay who was inviting a delegation from Ballyshannon Town Council to attend their Folk Festival from March 14-March 23.

She added that over 65 visitors were coming from Grenay..including 63 musicians.

“It shows that while we have cultural exchanges there is also an economic benefit as well.

“There are 65 coming here and there will be a knock on effect as they will spending money here.”
