Election count: Two down - Three to go

Counting is set to go into the wee hours tonight with only two centres wrapping up their proceedings thus far.

Stranorlar finished ahead of the pack wrapping up all nine of their counts by 8.30pm.

Glenties concluded by 10pm.

Topping the poll in Stranorlar was Sinn Fein’s Gary Doherty with Frank McBrearty (Ind) close by. They will be joined in the Council Chamber by Patrick McGowan (FF), Liam Doherty (SF), Gerry Crawford (FF) and Martin Harley (FG).

Glenties poll topper was Seamus O’Domhaill (FF) with Marie Teresa Gallagher (SF) second, with party colleague, John Shéamuis Ó Fearraigh next. Taking seats with them are Enda Bonner (FF), Michael Colm Mac Giolla Easpaig (Ind) and Terence Slowey (FG) .

In Inishowen, a late night was on the cards with just Martin McDermott (FF) being elected after the first count. On the sixth count Jack Murray (SF) was hoping to join him.

Liam Blaney (FF) topped Letterkenny with independent John O’Donnell coming second, and by 10pm Ciaran Brogan (FF)had joined them on the sixth count.

Donegal EA poll topper was independent Niamh Kennedy, joined by Tom Connagahn (Ind) elected on the tenth count.
