Between them, they plan to lose 28 inches of their long, flowing hair - and it’s all to raise money for a very worthwhile cause.
Nora Doherty (16) from Kilmacrennan and Eilish Gallagher (19) from Ramelton plan to donate their hair to the children’s charity, Little Princess Trust.
The Trust provide wigs for young children who suffer hair loss because of cancer or other illnesses.
Over the last number of weeks, Nora and Eilish have been busy raising money and highlighting their charity appeal and tomorrow evening, in Peter Marks in Letterkenny, they will bravely go for that ‘short back and sides’ look.
“It’s something I’ve wanted to do for a good while now,” Nora explained this week. “I got the idea when Jessy J did something similar. I knew that Eilish was thinking about doing it too so we got together and decided to give it a go.”
For Nora, a fourth year student at Loreto Milford, the appeal holds special significance. Her mum Noreen lost a battle to cancer almost eight years ago at the age of just 37.
The two girls will be joined by family members and friends in Peter Marks tomorrow and Nora was keen to say thanks to the staff at the hair salon for all their support.
“We called in to Peter Marks and told them what we were thinking about doing. Right from then, the staff there have been absolutely brilliant to us.
“They were really willing to help out and are sponsoring our hair cuts on Friday evening.”
The girls have been delighted with the support they have received for their charity appeal up until now. Anyone wishing to donate can do so on line at www.justgiving.com/Eilish-gallagher.
