Criminals not only ransacked a family home but also stole thousands of euro of equipment used to help stricken animals.
Donegal Donkey Sanctuary in Raphoe was broken into over the weekend, as well as the home of its owner, Danny Curran and his family.
The thieves stole a significant amount of goods from the family home and also took a large quantity of invaluable equipment from the Sanctuary, including donkey harnesses, trailers and feeding equipment.
Mr Curran explained that they are currently in the process building an extension to the sanctuary that will house a centre and café for their visitors and extra stables for the animals.
Despite the upsetting set back Danny says they will press ahead with their planned opening date of the Easter Bank Holiday weekend.
He explained; “When they finished ransacking the house they went up to the donkey sanctuary where they stole a trailer for straw, a trailer for a quad, a barrow and the tack.”
