Donegal is to receive 750,000 euro in funding for storm damage relief and €730,000 euro to develop a small craft harbour at Killybegs.

Dinny McGinley, TD, minister of state for the Gaeltacht; and Joe McHugh, Fine Gael TD for Donegal North East, welcomed the news, with Deputy McHugh calling the announcement by Minister Simon Coveney, “a very positive one for Donegal and specifically for the development of a small craft harbour in Killybegs.

“The recent damage caused by storm and severe weather was considerable across the country, and while there are some areas that were hit harder than others, there were many businesses and infrastructures in Donegal which were badly affected and I warmly welcome the Minister’s acknowledgment and investment in the region,” Deputy McHugh said.

He called funding for the harbour development “a very significant investment for the area, both in terms of local business and the additional access this will give to small and medium fishermen, but also to the local community and creating local employment for the project”.
