Councillors in the Letterkenny Electoral Area are seeking a meeting with representatives from Irish Water in a bid to clarify their role.

A number of councillors attending their recent committee meeting said they required more information on the role the new body will play in the provision of services in Donegal.

Cllr Ciaran Brogan said there has been “no clarity at all” on their role from a council perspective, adding the public also demanded more clarity on the situation. “If there was a crisis who would you call: Donegal County Council or Irish Water?”. Cllr Mick Quinn said he had concerns whether Irish water would be taking over responsibilities on “unfinished estates”.

Cllr Noel McBride said a meeting is scheduled with company in March but he was seeking this to be brought forward. “We can’t have Donegal County Council carrying the can,” he stated.
