Donegal county councillors have rejected the council’s draft revenue budget, leaving open the possibility that the council could be dissolved.
The 138 million euro draft budget failed by a vote of 15-13, with Fianna Fáil and Sinn Féin councillors and independent Cllr. John Campbell voting against it and Fine Gael councillors, Labour Cllr. Martin Farren and independent Cllrs. Pádraig Doherty, Michael McBride, Frank McBrearty Jr. and Donegal Mayor, independent Cllr. Ian McGarvey, voting for it.
The vote came at about 12.50am.
Councillors have just been told they have until January 13th to pass a budget - news from officials appears to have taken some councillors by surprise.
