Always a fighter to the very end MEP Pat the Cope Gallagher was at the polling booth with his wife Ann this morning just as it opened in Dungloe.

Conscious that every minute and every vote counted today the energetic Dungloe man set out to ensure that he garnered every ounce of support in a constituency that covers over half the country.

Gallagher said, “I have driven practically once around the world at this stage and I may as well put in that final push now - I have a strong feeling that I will prove the pollsters wrong.

Asked whether he approved of the two candidate strategy he said, “Today is not a day for analysis or post mortems - I will be focussing on getting out the vote today and then on to Celtic Park on Sunday for the match.”
