A crowd of up 1,500 people packed into a specially convened meeting in Manorcunningham last night to address the spate of violent crimes against elderly people in the area.
There was high emotion and anger when each of the victims present told their story to the audience.
One woman, a single mother of two who had her house broken into said as well as her new TV and children laptops taken it was the heirloom of her late mothers 30-year-old watch that she valued above all and this was stolen as well.
An emotional tribute was paid to the Late Suzy Arthur, a crime victim on several occasions the meeting heard, until she was eventually hospitalised by intruders.
There was calls for stronger policing and the establishment of a community alert scheme to be established.
