Cllr. Dessie Larkin, who announced on Friday that he will not contest the local elections in May, says he’s been overwhelmed by the good wishes he has been receiving.
The Fianna Fáil politician is a member of Donegal County Council and Letterkenny Town Council who has served as chair of both. He was the youngest ever chair of Donegal VEC.
He said the decision to retire from politics was difficult and one he considered for “some time” but he’s been “overwhelmed” by everyone’s support since.
“To a man and woman, everyone has wished me well and given me tremendous encouragement. It’s very heartening in this age when so much politics seems to be associated with cynicism.”
