Christmas present for Bundoran rates payers

Bundoran’s ratepayers got an early Christmas present today when members of Bundoran Town Council agreed not to increase rates in 2013.

Mayor Philip McGlynn told today’s meeting that council officials had, at a pre-budget meeting, proposed a 3.5% increase but that members had “worked very hard” to ensure that did not happen.

The €21,500 decrease in funding from central government was offset through a reduction in the tourism marketing budget of €21,500.

Provision of €40,000 was also made to allow Bundoran Community Childcare Group secure its premises.

Mayor McGlynn noted that over the last two years, rates were reduced by 8% and 3% respectively. “By agreeing to have no increase this year, instead of a 3.5% increase, we’ve saved our ratepayers a total of 14.5%, while maintaining services to the highest standard”.
